When I started Roll Rider, it wasn’t a carefully crafted business plan—it was born out of sheer necessity (and a little travel chaos) during an unforgettable family adventure. Let me take you on the journey of how Roll Rider and its flagship scooter suitcase came to life.
The Problem That Sparked the Idea
Four years ago, my family was gearing up for our first big trip to Europe—a two-week anniversary celebration in Italy with three kids in tow. Packing for the trip of a lifetime was stressful. Getting through airports with three little ones and a mountain of gear was overwhelming. Enter the scooter suitcase!
After hours of frantic searching for ways to make our journey easier, I discovered this clever product. The idea of combining a scooter with a travel suitcase for kids seemed like a dream come true—fun for the kids and practical for me. I bought two as holiday gifts, and they were an instant hit! My older kids were ecstatic and started packing them immediately. Even before we set foot on the plane, the adventure had begun.
At the airport, my kids zipped through the terminal with grins from ear-to-ear, thrilled by their newfound independence. What could’ve been a stressful trek to a far-off gate became a fun-filled escapade. Passersby couldn’t get enough of it, and compliments and questions about the scooter suitcases flooded in. My kids were unofficial airport celebrities, spreading smiles wherever they scooted.
The Scooter Suitcase: Not quite perfect…yet
For the next five years, we never traveled without our scooter suitcases. But as much as we loved them, they were far from perfect. The metal kickboard was heavy and hit my daughter’s legs. The folding mechanism was clunky and required handling the dirty underside of the kickboard. The handlebars were too short, and storage space was tight. Over time, my kids outgrew them, and we moved on to other brands, only to encounter new problems.
Scooter luggage design became a constant topic of conversation around our household. How could this product not exist in a better form? Why weren’t more people using this? We were baffled that no company had solved the same issues we’d faced. Trip after trip, strangers kept stopping us to ask about the product.
Lightbulb Moment
One day, my inner entrepreneur had an epiphany: Why not create the ultimate scooter suitcase ourselves?
As I often tell my kids (and budding entrepreneurs), great businesses are born when you see a problem, feel passionate about solving it, and discover that customers share that enthusiasm. This wasn’t just an opportunity to create a better product; it was a chance to teach my kids about entrepreneurship, problem-solving, and creativity.
We dove headfirst into the world of product design and manufacturing—a world I knew nothing about. We explored every detail from scooter suitcase accessories to overall luggage design improvements. The result? A kids scooter carry-on that’s as practical as it is fun. With features like an adjustable handlebar, ample storage, light-up wheels, and an accessory pack, Roll Rider transforms family travel into a smoother, more enjoyable experience.

It was uncharted territory for me, but isn’t that the beauty of entrepreneurship? Sometimes, it’s your naivety that gives you the courage to start. But how you ask? Stay tuned for more adventures in getting Roll Rider, well… Rolling!
